THE HASSLE-FREE, READY-TO-FRUIT SOLUTION FOR GROWING SHIITAKE AT HOME

Shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula edodes) have a long history in East Asia, where they have been cultivated and enjoyed for centuries for their rich, meaty umami flavour. Historical records from China’s Song Dynasty (1209 AD) note their cultivation, with Shiitake traditionally used to support vitality and general wellness.

Modern science has shown Shiitake contains polysaccharides, including beta-glucans and lentinan, which are being researched for their potential role in supporting normal immune function. These compounds may help explain the mushroom’s long-standing popularity in traditional and contemporary wellness practices.

With their rich, savory taste and tender texture, Shiitake mushrooms are a versatile addition to any kitchen. They work beautifully in soups, stir-fries, sauces, and sautéed dishes. Dried or fresh, they add depth of flavour and satisfying texture to meals.

Growing your own Shiitake mushrooms at home is simple with this Shiitake Mushroom Fruiting Block Kit, produced by our trusted partners at Martian Mushrooms. Designed for beginners and experienced growers alike, this kit removes complexity and makes mushroom growing straightforward and fun.

Each kit contains a pre-colonised, ready-to-fruit block — no inoculation, grain prep, or waiting period required. With the right conditions, you can grow dense clusters of Shiitake mushrooms ready to cook, dry, or use in teas and extracts.

HOW TO USE

Prepare the Block
Remove the block from the bag and soak it in cold water for 4–8 hours to fully rehydrate. Keep the block submerged with a weight.

Maintain Humidity
Mist the block 2–3 times daily or use a humidity tent. Pinning usually occurs within 7–14 days after soaking, depending on environmental conditions. Once pins appear, reduce misting to prevent soggy caps and focus on fresh air exchange.

Optional Fruiting Chamber
For best results, place the block in a fruiting chamber such as a MonoTub or Martha tent to maintain ideal humidity and airflow.

Harvest
After approximately 30 days, mushrooms should reach full size. Gently twist at the base to harvest.

A step-by-step online guide is available to support successful cultivation.
